The Arabic level 5 course is for anyone whose Arabic is at intermediate level (comparable to level B1 of the European Framework of Reference). The course is suitable for people who can already have short conversations in Arabic, read simple texts using a word list, and are able to use different kinds of verbs in the present tense.
Arabic level 5 is mainly aimed at everyday use of language and practical language skills. The teacher will, for instance, bring in news reports on current affairs in the Arab World, or will ask students to read a short story.
After following Arabic level 5, participants will be able to understand work-related conversations, read texts, such as personal emails and short news reports, talk about feelings, events and hobbies, and write texts on a range of simple subjects.
The construction of passive sentences will be one of the areas of grammar dealt with in this course. The use of less common verbs will also be tackled.
The course is taught in Arabic and Dutch or English (depending on the languages of the participants). Attention will also be paid to some aspects of modern Arabic dialects. Some knowledge of English is advisable for participation in the course as the book Arabic Verb Tenses is written in English.
The final chapters of the book Arabic Verb Tenses will be covered during the course. Specially developed teaching material for reading, conversation and vocabulary will also be used.
The end level of this course equals B1.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. The course concludes with a final test. Once you have successfully completed this test you will receive a certificate, and you can proceed to Arabic level 6
