The group course Arabic level 4 focuses on practical communication, vocabulary-building, and differences between formal and informal Standard Arabic. Among other grammatical concepts, students master the use of different types of verbs in the present tense.
This course is right for you if you are comfortable reading dialogues and short texts in Arabic with the help of a word list. You also need to be familiar with singular and plural pronouns and conjugation of verbs in both the present and past tenses.
The course is taught in Arabic and Dutch or English, depending on the languages of the participants.
The intake procedure for this course consists of: online intake conversation.
After you have enrolled for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure.
If you have completed the Arabic level 3 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
Topics include talking about yourself and others, the house and home, work and routine, and sport and leisure. Grammatical concepts include plural nouns and adjectives, verbal nouns, and participles.
Like all Arabic courses at UvA Talen, the Arabic variety taught in this course is Standard Arabic, the language understood in all Arab countries and used in the media.
You will complete the course with an oral and written exam.
If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a certificate showing the level you have attained and you will be able to continue to Arabic level 5.

There is no difference in the course content and course material between the online and in class course, only a difference in format. The online courses take place via Zoom and the in class courses at the Roeterseiland in Amsterdam. By using breakout-rooms teachers will aim to provide the same interaction as during an in class course. In both formats students are expected to actively participate in the course.
The choice for an online or in class course depends on your personal preference for location and teaching style.
It is not possible to combine an online and in class course. If you start a course online, you will follow the entire course online. The same applies to in class courses. This is in order to ensure the peace in our classes and avoid a lot of changes between classes.
Students generally need to spend double the amount of time of the course on studying by themselves. This means that if your course is 40 hours of class, you can expect about 80 hours of homework and self study. In our experience, the more time you invest in homework, the more you benefit from your course.
In the week before the start of the course you will receive your final course confirmation which mentions your teacher.
At UvA Talen we have a variety of professional teachers with years of experience teaching to adults. Due to our feedback sessions with teacher we can guarantee the quality of our teachers.
