Course information
During this course, you will increasingly expand your active language skills. Upon completing the Dutch Advanced 2 course, you will have a thorough and complete knowledge of basic Dutch. After this course you will, among other things, be able to:
- understand live or recorded texts on less-familiar topics
- explain problems clearly, giving causes, consequences, advantages and disadvantages
- understand articles on very specific topics with the help of a dictionary
Course schedule and prices
Intake
The intake procedure for this course consists of: online intake conversation.
After you have enrolled for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure.
If you have completed the Dutch Advanced 1 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
Course content
The primary focus of the course is an expansion of your proficiency in listening, reading, writing and speaking in Dutch.
By the end of this course you will be able to follow the main thread of lectures on specific topics, you will be able to follow radio and TV programmes (documentaries, talk shows, films) and use listening strategies. You will understand articles and reports on contemporary problems in which the writers take different standpoints and you can use reading strategies. You can comment on a text, express information and opinions and describe statistical figures. You are able to express feelings, give advice, give a presentation and tell an anecdote.
The grammar you learn during this course includes:
- irregular verbs
- verb tenses
- relative pronouns
- the pronominal adverb
Certificate
You will complete the course with an oral and written exam.
If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a certificate showing the level you have attained and you will be able to continue to Dutch Proficiency 1.
Course material
The course material is not included in the course price. If you choose to follow lessons in class, you can buy your books through us. You then receive them during the first lesson. If you are going to take an online course, you will buy the books yourself.

What is included in the price of a group course?
The course price includes:
- an intake
- the group course
- an exam
- (if necessary) a resit. You can take the resit within six months after finishing the course.
- a certificate
The course material is not included in the course price.
What is the difference between an online and in class course? Can I combine an online and in class course?
There is no difference in the course content and course material between the online and in class course, only a difference in format. The online courses take place via Zoom and the in class courses at the Roeterseiland in Amsterdam. By using breakout-rooms teachers will aim to provide the same interaction as during an in class course. In both formats students are expected to actively participate in the course.
The choice for an online or in class course depends on your personal preference for location and teaching style.
It is not possible to combine an online and in class course. If you start a course online, you will follow the entire course online. The same applies to in class courses. This is in order to ensure the peace in our classes and avoid a lot of changes between classes.
How much time should I expect to spend on studying by myself?
Students generally need to spend double the amount of time of the course on studying by themselves. This means that if your course is 40 hours of class, you can expect about 80 hours of homework and self study. In our experience, the more time you invest in homework, the more you benefit from your course.
Which teacher will teach my group course?
In the week before the start of the course you will receive your final course confirmation which mentions your teacher.
