Russian level 13

Course information

Upon completing the Russian level 13 course, you will have a comprehensive knowledge of the Russian language. After this course you will, among other things, be able to:

  • write a short news article based on current affairs
  • prepare a spoken presentation in which you summarise well-known facts and your own point of view
  • take part in a survey in which you are asked to give your opinion

Who is it for?

Russian level 13 is intended for students who already have a high level of Russian. Students should be familiar with some advanced aspects of Russian grammar and should have a broad and active vocabulary.

What will you learn?

This language course will improve your general language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking and listening), but is primarily focused on increasing your vocabulary and on active speaking and writing. By the end of the course you will be able to understand the main points in an audio news text and extract the most important information. You can extract the essence of texts on topics covered in class and find specific information, for example on domestic and international politics, economics and entrepreneurship, society, demographic processes and the family, science, new technologies and the internet. You will be able to understand most of the information when reading both short and fairly extensive texts on the topics covered in class which have undergone no or only minimal editing, and you will have expanded your vocabulary with regard to important modern social topics and current affairs.

And grammar?

Upon successful completion of Russian level 13, you will have mastered advanced grammar skills. Grammatical topics revisited in the course include:

  • converting direct speech into indirect speech
  • the use of verbs of motion
  • the use of forms of aspect in the imperative
If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a certificate showing the level you have attained and you will be able to continue to Russian level 14.

Assessment

The intake procedure for this course comprises: intake interview, questionnaire

After you have registered for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure.

If you have completed the Russian level 12 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
